Chip is an ISA Certified Arborist in Pottstown (PD-3176A) with more than 21 years of hands-on experience. He diagnoses sick and declining trees, judges whether a tree is a risk to the house, and recommends treatment, pruning, cabling or removal.

A visit starts with the tree itself: the leaves, the bark, the base and the roots, and what's around it. You get a plain answer on what's wrong, how serious it is and what your options are, including leaving it alone.

Cabling and bracing can save a valuable tree with a weak fork or heavy limbs. Steel cables high in the crown, or rods through the wood, limit how far the limbs can move in wind, so the tree can stay.

Sometimes. It depends on what's wrong and how far along it is, which is what an arborist visit is for. Some problems respond to treatment or pruning, and some trees are better taken down before they fail.

Chip looks at the tree, from the leaves to the roots, and tells you what's wrong, whether it's a risk to the house, and what your options are. He'll say so if the best option is to leave it alone. A visit is $200 an hour, and that's credited toward any treatment or work you go ahead with.
